We are excited to share that Prof. Debjani Paul and the team have licensed their Sickle Cell Diagnosis technology to Lord's Mark Industries Pvt Ltd. This innovative technology has been exclusively licensed for field testing and commercialization. We are all the more thrilled that the licensed technology was developed through the project 'Validation of a sickle cell diagnostic kit ' that was funded by WRCB in 2019. This technology had also received funding earlier from Gates Foundation and Tata Centre for Technology and Design. Prof. Paul is currently a professor at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Professor-In-Charge of WRCB, and PI of the Microfluidics and Biological Physics Group at IIT Bombay.
Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary blood disorder with no cure where red blood cells become stiff and sickle-shaped, with the afflicted individuals suffering chronic health conditions. Limited access to diagnosis and counseling in remote parts of India results in high incidences and mortality rates, especially among disadvantaged communities. The licensed technology addresses this unmet need for a point-of-care test.
Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Paul, Lord's Mark Pvt. Ltd and their teams!
