We are delighted to share that Prof. Samir Maji has been chosen for the prestigious SASTRA-Obaid Siddiqi Award for Life Sciences. The recognition is based on Prof. Maji's research record and its impact on the Life Sciences discipline. The prize is given by the SASTRA University, Thanjavur, as a tribute to Professor Obaid Siddiqi, a pioneering molecular biologist and the Founder-Director of the TIFR-NCBS. Dr. Maji is a professor at the IIT Bombay Dept. of Biosciences and Bioengineering.
Prof. Maji’s group explores various aspects of amyloids, especially those associated with human neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Prions, human cancers, etc. WRCB has funded several of Prof. Maji’s works on novel amyloid hydrogels in treating diabetes and developing amyloid-based material for drug delivery. Recently, Prof. Maji was also appointed the founding Professor-in-charge of the Sunita Sanghi Centre of Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases (SCAN) diseases at IIT Bombay.
