Lab manager for a project under WRCB

About the centre

Wadhwani Research Centre for Bioengineering (WRCB) was established in 2014 with a generous philanthropic donation from Dr Romesh Wadhwani. It is an inter- departmental virtual centre of IIT Bombay. WRCB supports technology translation and commercialization in the four core focus areas of Diagnostics, Therapeutics, MedTech and Synthetic Biology. Over 60 faculty members from the different departments of the institute have been supported by the centre.

Role: This role involves both technical and administrative jobs for managing the Himedia-
WRCB Bioinnovation Laboratory; it is not a solely research position. The candidate will be
responsible for setting up of the lab and overseeing its day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping the committee members with lab design.
  • Helping the committee members with identifying equipment specifications. Ensuring
  • designated lab space is available and making sure other requirements (electrical,
  • plumbing, etc.) for equipment installation are met.
  • Handling purchase of equipment.
  • Handling installation of equipment.
  • Recording training videos and preparing training documentation for each equipment.
  • Training students and other users as and when required.
  • Maintaining inventories and regular ordering of consumables.
  • Maintaining updated MSDS for all ordered consumables.
  • Ensuring used chemicals are disposed according to safety guidelines.
  • Preparing lab safety documentation to ensure that the lab is compliant with IIT
  • Bombay’s safety guidelines.
  • Handling all regular repairs needed in the lab. Coordinating with different
  • infrastructure offices within IIT Bombay as required for repairs and maintenance.
  • Training and managing staff in cleaning glassware and performing other lab chores.
  • Maintaining cell lines.
  • Providing project managers with quarterly reports on lab status.
  • Performing any other lab-related or WRCB-related duties assigned by the PIC and
  • WRCB project managers.

Desired Profile

M. Sc. in a relevant life sciences discipline with two years of hands-on experience in lab techniques such as cell culture, cloning, western slotting, etc.

Disclaimer: The position is contractual for a period of 1 year but renewable as per the Institute’s guidelines and tenable only for the duration of the project. The selection committee may offer lower or higher designation and lower or higher salary depending upon the experience and performance of the candidate in the interview.
